The project will provide for the transfer of 400 MW of power from Pittsburg CA via a 53 mile submarine transmission line that stretches under the San Francisco Bay from Pittsburgh, California to San Francisco. Siemens are utilizing their new high voltage direct current (HVDC) Plus technology for this application. This technology is the preferred solution where shortage of space is a factor. This installation will confirm Siemens as an innovative leader in HVDC transmission.
WorleyParsons was awarded the contract to provide engineering services for the HVDC terminals for the project. The project scope includes site engineering, electrical and structural engineering, and permit management.
WorleyParsons has worked closely with Siemens engineers to develop the installation details for the first application of their new HVDC Plus technology. Concurrently we have managed the complex planning and permitting process for facilities of this type in California to support an aggressive construction schedule.
