This was followed in October 2001 by the WorleyParsons/Fluor joint venture, Kashagan Development Project Contractors (KDPC) being awarded the conceptual design and FEED contract for the first block of the Kashagan East Field Development project by Agip KCO, Tranches 1 and 2.
The conceptual design was completed in April 2002 and was immediately followed by FEED, which finished in July 2003. The Enhanced FEED and FEL phase of the work was concluded in March 2004, when the detailed design contract was awarded. Tranche 3 pre-FEED activities commenced in October 2004 and the FEED report was issued June 2005.
Kashagan East field is located in the Caspian Sea, approximately 80 km South of Atyrau where temperatures range from minus 36°C to plus 45°C. The water depth in the development area is less than 4 metres and ice-bound in winter. The field is also in an environmentally sensitive sturgeon habitat area.
The field is being developed in phases with the first phase of development called the “Experimental Programme”. This covers the conceptual design of two reservoir blocks, with a combined capacity of 450,000 BOPD and 1,200 MMSCFD of gas, and detailed engineering through the EPC phase. The development comprises a combination of offshore and onshore processing facilities, trunklines and export pipelines.
