The Dong Fang (translation: easterly direction) platforms topsides project is about to move into top gear with the project team to increase to 55 staff this week with the imminent arrival of the last contingent of 13 secondee engineers from the customer company, COOEC.
These Chinese staff will form a key and integral component of the Worley project design team, and will perform a valuable role, not only as discipline engineers in the design process, but also as key communicators regarding Chinese standards and practices, as well as coordinators with Chinese vendors, fabrication facilities and installation contractors.
Mutual understanding and the establishment of good relationship with our Chinese colleagues is fundamental to the success of the project and to that extent cultural awareness workshops have been held for both Australian and Chinese staff. Overall progress is approaching 30%, with a targeted completion in early 2002.
